1970's Drug Kingpin Arrested at Seniors Community
A key member of a Miami based Marijuana smuggling ring was arrested by U.S. Marshals on Thursday, 31 years after skipping out on a federal trial. Mark Steven Phillips who is 62 years old was a Kingpin that was part of the "Black Tuna Gang" that by some estimate had imported some 500 tons of Marijuana in the 70's. He was one of 13 that were facing charges by a federal court in 1979, but Mark skipped out on the trial and has been on the run ever since.
This is amazing to me that this guy has been on the run for 31 years in the same city that he was busted in. I mean come on 31 years? I realize that this guy was not a mass murder but he was a fugitive of the law and one would think that it would not take 31 years to track this guy down.
